Personal Profile
Dipanshu Sharma is a powerhouse of artistic talent and determination.
Dipanshu has been at the Lee Strasberg Institute, Los Angeles, where he trained under the best acting coaches representing the South Asian community. He started his career with the famous National School of Drama in Delhi, where he got an opportunity to be part of the Sahitya Kala Parishad Group. He recalls the play being called Raavan Leela and it was the first theatre performance of his acting career.
Dipanshu has made an unconventional career path on a global scale. In the past, he has been in projects like “That Winning Feeling”, directed by Luc Mariscotti, where Dipanshu played the character of a chess player who was dealing with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
His career trajectory has been marshaled so far on every level, from smart choices, and listening to his inner voice, the near-universal love and support.
In Baking 101, Dipanshu played a South Asian gay character portraying the mental pressure and the stereotypical ways of society where he portrayed the concerns of family pressure and the emotionally draining process of coming out of the closet.
Another film in which Dipanshu shone brilliantly is "The Concert of Life". Its focus was on accurately representing the highs and lows of life, with Dipanshu's role as a mechanic being considered the lowest of low. Yet, Dipanshu managed to give hope to the character, creating a wonderfully twisted and torn human being. The film was shortlisted for a BAFTA.
In one of his most recent projects, RomeAntic, which was shot in Rome and is currently being distributed amongst film festivals such as Sundance and Boston Shorts Film Festival, he portrayed lead character Finn displaying challenges of mental health problems and substance abuse.
Currently, he is not only an alumnus of one of the best acting schools in the world, but he is constantly working to bring out issues that need to be addressed in the Indian community through his creative pursuits. His zeal is startling, his actions to uplift the Indian community are quick-witted and whip-smart. He is on an indisputable mission to increase diversity and put Asian actors at the forefront of the global artistic community.
He has just booked the leading role for an upcoming tv-series currently titled "The Scam King of the West". The series will focus on the phone call scams which are often performed by Indians.
